Ryuzaki website
The intro site for Ryuzaki, a local-first threat-intel desktop app that is still a WIP (work in progress, someday ill publish it).
Built w/
- Astro the static site framework. Ships zero JS by default, which is kinda the whole point.
- TypeScript so the spring physics code doesn't lie to me at 3am.
- Plain CSS no Tailwind, no CSS-in-JS. Just design tokens and vibes.
- A hand-written damped-spring integrator, used for exactly one (1) modal. Overkill? Maybe. Worth it? Yes.
The design concept
Dark, minimal, light-gray accent. The motion is inspired by Apple translucency, depth, springs instead of CSS transitions, motion you can grab and reverse mid-flight.
The showcase modal is a bottom sheet that opens with a real spring (damping ratio + response, not a fixed duration). You can drag it down to dismiss. It reads your flick velocity, projects where the gesture is going, then snaps. Flick it down hard and it dismisses. Change your mind and pull back and it snaps home. Interruptible the whole way, no brick-wall velocity jumps.
A few rules baked in:
- Respond on pointer-down, not release. Buttons feel alive the instant you touch them.
- Springs over CSS transitions for anything you can touch.
- Translucent materials (backdrop-filter) for depth and hierarchy.
- Reduced-motion, reduced-transparency, and increased contrast all respected.
